This module lays the foundation for the entire DIY Academy. Through understanding the anatomy and physiology of the skin, we learn what the skin is made of, how it functions and why it reacts to certain ingredients and formulations.

We pay special attention to the differences between the skin of the face, scalp, intimate area, hands, feet and body skin, because the same formulation cannot work equally on all parts of the skin.

In the module, we cover how the skin functions at the cellular level, how skin renewal occurs, what are the limits of ingredient penetration, and how and why the skin ages.

The goal is to create a common language and understanding that will later help participants make meaningful connections between ingredients, formulation systems, and product performance.

In this module we learn what formulating really is and where it stops being a hobby.

We clarify the difference between DIY formulation for personal use and professional formulation that implies repeatability, safety and responsibility to the market.

This module provides a clear framework of the levels of formulation and helps you understand when a recipe becomes a product and enthusiasm turns into a systematic and controlled process.

It is ideal for anyone who wants to know where they are and where they can go next.

In this module we focus on developing real formulation skills and what it takes to know how to formulate a cosmetic product thoughtfully and safely.

We learn how to understand the role of each ingredient, how to balance the formulation, monitor changes, and develop a formulator’s sense through practice and observation.

The module provides a solid basis for independent formulation and helps connect theoretical knowledge with practical thinking.

In this module, we deal with formulations that do not contain water, such as balms, butters, and oil blends.

We learn how to select and combine oils, butters and waxes, how to achieve a stable and pleasant texture, and understand the advantages and limitations of waterless systems, including their stability and safety without preservatives.

In this module, we enter the world of emulsions and explain how to combine the water and oil phases into a stable and functional product.

We learn what makes a good emulsion, what is the role of an emulsifier, how texture is created, and how to recognize and understand the most common instability problems.

The powder systems module is dedicated to dry formulations, such as powders, masks, and cleansing products.

We explain how powdered raw materials behave, how to achieve good homogeneity and functionality, and what are the advantages and challenges of formulating without a liquid phase.

In this module, we learn how to safely and meaningfully use essential oils in cosmetic formulations.

We cover their role, limitations, proper dosage, and the difference between aromatherapy and cosmetic approaches, with an emphasis on safety, skin tolerance, and functional application.

This module is dedicated to the specifics of children’s skin, its immaturity and sensitivity.

We learn how to formulate simple, mild and safe products, with an emphasis on the choice of raw materials, formulation minimalism and understanding what children’s skin really needs and what it doesn’t.

In this module, we cover the formulation of cosmetics adapted to pregnant women, along with an understanding of the physiological changes in the skin during pregnancy.

The focus is on safety, tolerance, choice of ingredients and realistic needs of the skin, without unnecessary active loads and marketing fear.

The module deals with skin during periods of hormonal changes, when imbalances, increased sebum secretion, and sensitivity are common.

We learn how to formulate products that support the skin barrier, balance, and hygiene, without aggressive approaches that can worsen skin conditions in the long term.

In this module, we focus on the needs of mature skin, changes in the structure and function of the skin over time, and how to provide support for hydration, elasticity and the skin barrier with the formulation.

In this module, we deal with formulations intended for skin that shows signs of aging, such as loss of elasticity, uneven complexion and changes in texture.

The focus is on supporting skin functions, preserving the barrier and skin quality, with the understanding that cosmetics do not stop aging, but can improve the appearance and feel of the skin.

* For participants who want to transfer their knowledge from the DIY Academy into the real work process, there is an optional opportunity to come to the Mireille Lab and participate in a full-day practical laboratory program.

This part of the education is designed as an intensive experience in which theoretical understanding of formulation is transformed into concrete, guided laboratory work.
