Making a cream for a baby’s bottom – Free education

The diaper area of a newborn and infant is one of the most sensitive parts of the body.

The delicate skin in this area is exposed to high humidity, friction and potential irritants from urine and stool. Therefore, the cream used to protect this part of the body is not only part of daily care, but also the first line of defense against diaper rash, redness and irritation.

Ingredients such as lanolin , vaseline and paraffin are often used in the classic formulations of diaper creams. Although they have a protective role, the modern approach to formulating children’s cosmetics is increasingly turning to alternatives that are more compatible with the physiology of the skin, allow it to breathe and do not disturb the natural balance of the microbiome.

This free Mireille Lab workshop is designed to provide parents, grandmothers (and maybe grandfathers) and anyone who wants to understand what we are actually putting on the skin of their little ones with the knowledge and practical skills to make their own diaper cream .

What we will do and learn:

  • Analyzing the purpose of diaper cream – what it needs to do and how it protects the skin
  • An overview of the most common ingredients in industrial formulations and the reasons why we choose alternative solutions
  • Creating a modern and healthy version of the cream without lanolin, petrolatum and paraffin, using gentle ingredients that support the skin barrier
  • Discussion on the frequency and method of application, and how the cream can act preventively, not just correctively
