Sodium coco sulphate – Sodium coco sulphate

Sodium coco sulfate is a solid surfactant derived from coconut oil. It is one of the most important raw materials for the production of solid shampoos. Its excellent foaming power makes it very pleasant to use and allows you to freely add butter or vegetable oils. Sodium coco sulfate is a natural alternative to sodium lauryl sulfate.

Focus on solid shampoos

Solid shampoos are an innovative and economical concept that is popular with many natural brands. With it, we get a very concentrated product, which does not require packaging, without preservatives, which takes up little space and is easy to transport. A shampoo bar of 100 g can replace about 70 to 80 shampoos.

Solid shampoos are also a lot of fun because they can be shaped to your liking and make very nice personalized gifts for your loved ones. Such formulas can also be very easily enriched with nourishing butters or oils, which is more difficult with classic liquid shampoos.

INCI: Sodium coco-sulfate
Recommended concentration: 10-80%

The process of making solid shampoo

Heat the sodium coco sulfate in a water bath with water and possibly a fatty phase (oil or vegetable butter) while stirring constantly. The sodium coco sulfate will not dissolve completely but will soften, which will allow it to combine with the other ingredients. Add herbal powders and other active ingredients, fragrances, colors … as desired!

Mix all ingredients together, working in the sodium coco sulfate well to create a sticky paste (the “little balls” will probably still be visible in the finished product, but that’s not a problem).

Transfer the mixture into a pre-oiled mold, press down firmly. Allow to harden (you can put the mold in the freezer for 30 minutes) before removing. Allow the solid shampoo to air dry for 1 week to harden before use.
