Traditionally, nutrients such as flavone glycosides and terpenoids are extracted from Ginkgo biloba leaves, while the remaining materials have been considered waste. By applying new techniques, it is now possible to efficiently extract chlorophyll from these residues and produce a valuable copper chlorophyllin complex, called chlorophyllin.
