Sensitive skin is a clinical condition defined by the presence of various sensory perceptions on the skin; including tightness, stinging, burning, tingling, pain and itching. The inflammatory reaction is part of the immune response. It includes all reactions triggered by the attack of pathogens or external factors. Multiple causes may be involved: physical (trauma, heat shock, UV radiation), chemical (pollution), biological (virus, bacteria) or psychological (stress, anxiety).
Sensitive skin can occur in people with normal skin, with a skin barrier disorder, or as part of symptoms associated with facial dermatoses such as rosacea, atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis.
Under normal conditions, the inflammatory response is controlled by various regulatory systems and participates in tissue protection and repair. However, if the inflammatory response is inadequate or poorly controlled, it can become aggressive.
Under stress, keratinocytes, the primary target cells, secrete pro-inflammatory mediators such as cytokines in large quantities. The release of these mediators leads to vascular changes in the affected area (vasodilation, increased capillary permeability) and clinical signs of inflammation (redness, burning, pain and edema).

TNF-α are the primary cytokines that can activate, directly or indirectly, all cells of the epidermis (Langerhans cells, melanocytes, Merkel cells) and dermis (fibroblasts) to initiate a reaction. This is also the case with IL-8, a chemokine that is produced by almost all skin cells and is induced by various stimuli. Its expression is enhanced under the action of TNF-α.
Gatuline® Derma-Sensitive is an active ingredient of natural origin, extracted from Capparis spinosa, which originates from the Mediterranean basin, its native area. The plant is known for its edible flower buds (caper) and fruits (caper berries), which are consumed pickled as a condiment. Anti-inflammatory properties are associated with the plant.
The use of supercritical CO2 extraction technique in combination with a co-solvent allows for the production of an oil extract rich in non-polar compounds.
