In addition to tannins, flavonoids, and wax-like substances, the root also contains alkanin, a red-purple pigment that was used in ancient times to color food and textiles.

Horsetail contains a large amount of silicic acid and silicates, phenolic acids, flavonoids and alkaloids. Many of the therapeutic effects of this plant are due to its high silicon content, which makes it particularly attractive for cosmetic use. Silicon strengthens the collagen fibers of the skin, connective tissues and promotes nail growth. Silicon also acts as an astringent, i.e. with a tightening and narrowing effect on the pores. Thus, horsetail extract is an ideal addition to cosmetic formulations aimed at anti-aging and skin tightening. In addition, horsetail is beneficial for the general well-being of the skin. It has antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, making it an excellent choice in cosmetics aimed at caring for skin damaged by pollutants and other environmental factors (e.g. sunlight).

Due to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, calendula has traditionally been used for the external treatment of minor skin inflammations such as sunburn and to support the healing of minor wounds. Due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects, calendula extract is used in cosmetic skin care products or in skin protection products. It is recommended to use the extract especially in products for the care of chapped, rough and sensitive skin. The anti-inflammatory effect is mainly attributed to the faradiol esters that are contained in larger quantities in the extract.

Due to the high content of matricin, which has a stronger effect than camazulen, it is recommended for inflamed skin and mucous membranes. It is recommended to make a working solution, for easier dosing when using, by dissolving 5 g of extract in 45 g of jojoba oil with gentle heating. This will make dosing easier and you can use such a working solution at 1-3% in your formulations. Store the working solution in dark bottles.
