Polyquaternium-10 has excellent regenerating and thickening properties and can be used in a variety of hair and skin care products, including:

  • Shampoos and conditioners
  • Shower gels and facial and body cleansers
  • Lotions, creams and hair styling products
  • Recommended percentage: 0.1 – 0.5%

Formulation guidelines

Polyquternium-10 is best suited for thicker shampoos, shower gels and creams.

The best way to prepare:

  • Slowly sift the powder into the water while stirring continuously.
  • Avoid rapid addition, as it may cause lumps to form.
  • Moderate heat and stirring increase the rate of dissolution.
  • Complete hydration is achieved when the solution is clear.
  • It is insoluble in ethanol and isopropanol, but can tolerate up to 65% alcohol in formulations.
  • For optimal stability, recommended pH range: 4 – 8

Thickening and compatibility

If it is necessary to further increase viscosity, electrolytes and cellulose thickeners can be used such as:

  • Hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC)
  • Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC)
  • Associative thickeners
  • Ideal for concentrated surfactant formulations.

  • Result: Increases lather and the feeling of softness of hair and skin.

It binds to the keratin of hair and skin thanks to its cationic charge, providing long-lasting regeneration.
