Polyquaternium-10 has excellent regenerating and thickening properties and can be used in a variety of hair and skin care products, including:
- Shampoos and conditioners
- Shower gels and facial and body cleansers
- Lotions, creams and hair styling products
- Recommended percentage: 0.1 – 0.5%

Formulation guidelines
Polyquternium-10 is best suited for thicker shampoos, shower gels and creams.
The best way to prepare:
- Slowly sift the powder into the water while stirring continuously.
- Avoid rapid addition, as it may cause lumps to form.
- Moderate heat and stirring increase the rate of dissolution.
- Complete hydration is achieved when the solution is clear.
- It is insoluble in ethanol and isopropanol, but can tolerate up to 65% alcohol in formulations.
- For optimal stability, recommended pH range: 4 – 8
Thickening and compatibility
If it is necessary to further increase viscosity, electrolytes and cellulose thickeners can be used such as:
- Hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC)
- Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC)
- Associative thickeners
- Ideal for concentrated surfactant formulations.
