Description
Known as the “mountain balm” and “sacred herb,” Yerba Santa (Eriodictyon californicum) is a member of the borage family (Boraginaceae) and is native to the Pacific coast of North America, particularly California. The leaves of this plant have been traditionally used to treat upper respiratory tract infections and asthma. Furthermore, the plant has been reported to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and neuroprotective properties. Most of these health benefits have been attributed to specific polyphenolic compounds present in the plant, such as homoeriodictyol, eriodictyol, and sterubin. Due to these antioxidant molecules, Yerba Santa is a perfect source of active ingredients that protect hair follicles from ROS.
