Sodium Phytate / Chelate
Price range: 7,50 € through 1.235,50 €
This natural chelating agent effectively inactivates metal ions by forming a complex between the chelator and metalA. Metal ions can enter the cosmetic formulation through production equipment, as well as impurities from ingredients (eg extracts, pigments) and through process water. In cosmetic products, these ions can accelerate oxidation reactions, can cause color change or weaken the foaming properties of surfactants.
100% natural origin, and compliant with other standards for natural cosmetics
- Easily biodegradable, no environmental hazard
- A combination with antioxidants (tocopherol, ascorbyl palmitate) is recommended.
- Protects valuable ingredients from oxidation (e.g. unsaturated oils, fragrance components)
100% natural, COSMOS, ECOCERT

Description
In rinse-off products:
- maintains foaming properties in the presence of hard water
- prevents the precipitation of insoluble salts of fatty acids in soaps
- efficiency optimal at higher pH (~ 6)
Recommended concentration:
- O/W emulsions 0.05 – 0.2 %
- Rinse-off products 0.1 – 0.2 %
- WORKING WITH sodium phytate
In emulsions:
- Can be added to the aqueous phase at any step during the formulation process; can be dissolved in cold water
- Consider the high amount of electrolytes introduced into the emulsion
In formulations with surfactants:
- Sodium phytate should be added to the aqueous phase before adding the thickener.
Keep in mind the very high pH.
When working with alkali-sensitive raw materials, it is recommended to dissolve sodium phytate in water, then add the appropriate substances.
Perfectly stable in U/W emulsions and aqueous systems.
INCI: sodium phytate
