Description

INCI : Colloidal Oatmeal. Leuconostoc/Radish Root, Ferment Filtrate
Description: liquid colloidal oats
Recommended concentration: 1 – 10%

Oats have been used for several millennia in various forms, as tea, for food, for baths, in dietary supplements for insomnia, anxiety, and various skin conditions such as eczema, burns, and other inflammatory processes.
It wasn’t until 1945 that colloidal oats were produced and it was discovered that finely ground and heat-treated oats released colloidal materials. Users who used colloidal oats in their routine described their skin as “softer” and “silkier.”

SCIENCE
Colloidal oats purify, moisturize and smooth the skin and provide skin protection from UV radiation. Oats are ground into a powder and dispersed in water, resulting in a cosmetic agent that can be used as an additive to baths, shampoos, shaving gels and moisturizers. The beneficial cosmetic properties of colloidal oats arise from chemical polymorphism. The high content of starch and beta-glucan is responsible for the protective and water retention of the skin. The presence of various types of phenols provides antioxidant and soothing activity.
Some of the phenols in oats are also potent absorbers of ultraviolet radiation. Flavonoids found in oats, which resemble phenolic structures, are responsible for absorbing UV rays, acting as a protective defense against accelerated aging caused by frequent exposure to ultraviolet rays. In preliminary studies, flavonoids have shown potential to modify allergens, viruses, and carcinogens, and can therefore be considered “biological response modifiers”.

In 2003, the FDA regulated colloidal oats as a skin care product.

BENEFITS
Colloidal Oatmeal (inci) is an aqueous solution of ground oats, which can be added to various cosmetic products and is an effective choice for protecting the skin from harmful external influences, while leaving it smooth and silky. This raw material is water-soluble and is recommended in a concentration of 1% to 10% in gels, lotions, shampoos, powders and creams. It is a perfect choice if the manufacturer wants to use it in multiple products because it can serve as a versatile base for cleansers, lotions and skin care products, where high activity is required. In addition to being an effective solution for providing protection from external conditions, it moisturizes, cleanses and soothes the skin. As it is allergen-free, it can also be recommended for sensitive skin.
