Vegeluron® Gel is a polysaccharide-based gel extracted from the fungus: Tremella Fuciformis. Tremella Fuciformis is a white gelatinous fungus grown in China where it is used in Chinese cuisine (in sweet dishes and drinks) and also in preparations for the care of mature skin. It is known as "Silver Ear" or "Snow Ear".

It has a long history of use in ancient China (Tang Dynasty, 8th century) for facial skin care and was part of the beauty secrets of the imperial court. In Japan, it is also known as Shirokikurage.

This fungus has a high water-holding capacity (reported to be similar to or better than hyaluronic acid) due to its high polysaccharide content. Tremella polysaccharide is a heterosaccharide based on a mannan backbone and side chains containing glucosyl, mannosyl, fucosyl, xylosyl and glucuronic acid groups. It is also called glucuronoxylomannan, which contains about 20% glucuronic acid.
