Description

Butyl avocadodate is an active ingredient derived from avocado oil through green chemistry processes. It consists of highly purified vegetable avocado esters, with a purity of more than 95%, obtained through a patented molecular distillation process. It was developed as a sebum regulator for the skin and scalp, especially in formulations intended for oily skin, oily T-zone, seborrheic scalp and anti-dandruff products.

Its key mechanism of action is based on inhibition of 5α-reductase type 1 enzymes. This enzyme converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a potent androgen that stimulates the pilosebaceous unit, increasing sebaceous gland activity and leading to increased sebum secretion. When 5α-reductase activity is increased, the skin can become oilier, the T-zone shinier, the pores more prominent, and the scalp can become oily more quickly.

Butyl avocadate reduces the activity of 5α-reductase and thus helps to regulate excessive secretion of sebum without aggressive drying of the skin. In vitro data show that at the same concentrations, it reduces the activity of 5α-reductase to 49% , while the reference ingredient Serenoa repens shows a reduction of 35%.

In facial skin, a cream with 2% Butyl Avocadate , applied twice daily for three weeks, reduced the area of ​​lipid spots by an average of 40%.. Dermatological evaluation showed a reduction in seborrhea on the forehead, nose, chin and cheeks, especially in the T-zone.
